Understanding the heart of Jesus

Isaiah 55

1. “Hoi!”

It is in the heart of Jesus to let us know what is in the heart of Jesus.

John 1v37-39; – “Come and see!”

John 15 v15 – “not servants but friends”

2. “Every one who thirsts, come to the waters, and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Buy wine and milk without money and without price.” (not without cost)

It is in the heart of Jesus to provide us with the constant flow of the Holy Spirit.

John 4v10,13-14; – “If you knew”  – “springs of living water”

John 7v37-39 – “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink -whoever believes in me streams of living water will flow from within – By this the meant the Spirit whom those who believed in him were going to receive.”

3. “Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labour on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and let your soul  delight in rich food.”

It is in the heart of Jesus to give us life in all its fullness by our personal relationship with him.

John 10v10; – “life in all its fullness”

John 6v35; – bread of life – never go hungry or thirsty

John 6v57-58 – “just as the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me.”

4. “ “Stretch out” your ear and come to me; hear and your soul will live. I will make an everlasting covenant with you, my faithful love promised to David.”

It is in the heart of Jesus to give to us the full benefits of his sacrificial death for us.   John 3v16;

Matthew 7v24,25; – hear obey – like house on rock

Luke 22v20; – new covenant in my blood – poured out for you

Luke 12v32 – “Father pleased to give you the Kingdom

5. “See, I have given  him  as a Witness to the peoples, a Leader and Commander to the peoples.”

It is in the heart of Jesus to reveal Father to us, to lead us, and to tell us what to do in God’s strategy.

John 1v18; “the only Son who is at the Father’s side, he has made him known.”

John 14v8-10; “Whoever has seen me has seen the Father

Mark 1v35-38; (leading) “We must go on to other villages”

Luke 10v1 – (strategy) Lk9 – 12, Lk 10 – 70 sent out

6. “See, you shall call a nation that you do not know, and nations that do not know you will run to you, because of the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, for he has beautified* you.

It is in the heart of Jesus to make us so attractive by his presence with us that people with whom we have no natural connection will be responsive and will come to find what we have.

John 17v22; – I gave them the same glory you gave me.

Luke 6v17-19; – J + – large crowd – from everywhere

Acts 2v5-12; – Pentecost – large crowd gathered, excited

Acts 5v12-14 – distinct group – more and more added

7. “Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts. Let him return to the Lord, and he will have mercy on him, and to our God for he will multiply pardon.”

It is in the heart of Jesus to be found and to respond positively to any desire to come to him.

“LET THEM!”

Luke 18 v35-42; – blind beggar

 Luke 19v1-9; – Zacchaeus – cheating businessman

Luke 8v2; demonized women incl. Mary Magdalene

Luke 7v37,38,47; – “sinful woman at Pharisee’s house”

 Matthew 18v21-22 – “how many times? 70×7”

8. “ For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways”, says the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thots than your thots”

It is in the heart of Jesus to change our way of thinking to his.

Matthew 16 v21-23; – Peter – God forbid, Lord!

 Luke 9v52-56; J+J –  fire from heaven

 John 13 v1-17 – washing feet – servant ministry

9. “As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it gives seed for the sower and bread for the eater, – so shall my word that goes out from my mouth:  It will not return to me empty but will accomplish that which I please, and prosper in the purpose for which I sent it.

It is in the heart of Jesus to fulfil his plans in our lives.

Luke 22 v32; – prayed that your faith will not fail

John 21 v15-19; – feed my lambs, shepherd my sheep

Acts 2v14 – “Then Peter stood up – and spoke.”

10. “For you shall go out with joy and be led out with peace; the mountains and the hills will burst into song before you, and the trees of the countryside will clap their hands. Instead of the thorn bush, the pine tree will grow, and instead of briers, the myrtle will grow. This shall be as a name to the Lord, an everlasting sign that will not be cut off.”

It is in the heart of Jesus to bring us into  a spiritual environment of joy, peace and fruitfulness.
